Full Job Description

FRONT DESK JOB DESCRIPTION - Hiring Full Time : Monday - Thursday 7:30-5 Friday 7:30-4

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Answer phone-make appointments, schedule depositions, cancel appointments, reschedule appointments, take messages, and check messages on answering machine, direct calls to appropriate people.
Collect co-pays/outstanding balances due at check-in/check-out.
Greet patients in a friendly matter; gather new patient information with forms.
Scan insurance cards, enter demographics and insurance information accurately into computer, take photo for EMR, update old patient’s information,
Schedule tests for patients (i.e., EMG/MRI/bone scans), schedule appointments for any referrals. Get AIM authorizations from insurances as needed.
Confirm insurance coverage, check patients out, and collect co-pays/deductibles/balances due from patients when required.
Go through future appointments to chart prep (i.e., records/x-rays/authorizations, EMG’s, insurance eligibility).
Mail out new patient forms to new patients and previous patients as needed.
Distribute documents in EMR from fax box.
Answer routine medical and post-op questions according to protocols and record in EMR.
Answer messages from the physician to the patients.
Make copies of front desk forms as needed (i.e., new patient forms, etc.).
Scan chart documents and file appropriately in EMR.
Cross train for other office positions as needed.
Yearly training for Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, and OSHA.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma. Front Desk experience preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Typing, alphabetizing, basic computer knowledge, handle multi-line telephone, accuracy in entering computer information. Clerical ability to maintain records.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

None Required

INTERPERSONAL:

Must have excellent people skills-able to communicate with respect and empathy in person and on the phone, work well under pressure, able to multi-task. Act in a professional manner reflecting the mission and philosophy of Hand Surgery of Northern Michigan.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Retrieving charts from storage which may require lifting 50+ lb storage boxes, bending, sitting frequently, standing frequently, walking frequently, squatting, reaching forward, reaching overhead, using one or both hands for grasping or pulling thick/heavy charts.

Know the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines.
