Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Pre-Operative Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will prepare patients for surgery by conducting thorough assessments, ensuring optimal preoperative care, and supporting surgical teams with precise patient management. Your expertise will help facilitate smooth surgical procedures, enhance patient safety, and promote positive outcomes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your clinical skills and compassionate care make a real difference.

Duties

Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and physical examinations to evaluate patient readiness for surgery.
Educate patients about the surgical process, including preoperative instructions, anesthesia procedures, and postoperative care plans.
Prepare patients for surgery by establishing IV access, administering medications such as antibiotics or sedation under physician orders, and ensuring aseptic techniques are followed meticulously.
Monitor patients' physiological status during preoperative phases, recognizing signs of distress or complications such as acute pain or allergic reactions, and communicate findings promptly to the healthcare team.
Assist with specimen collection and processing for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling and handling according to infection control protocols.
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and infection control standards while managing medical records and patient information securely.

Experience

Proven experience as a registered nurse in perioperative settings such as hospital operating rooms, outpatient surgical centers, or ambulatory surgery centers.
Hands-on experience with IV insertion, catheterization procedures, and aseptic technique application.
Knowledge of anesthesia preparation, airway management, and critical care principles relevant to perioperative nursing.
Familiarity with diverse surgical specialties such as orthopedics, ENT, GYN, plastics, pain and general surgery.
Ability to assess patient physiology accurately through vital signs monitoring and physical examinations while demonstrating excellent communication skills for patient education.
