Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides clinical care and patient support within the pediatric neurology practice. The LVN works closely with physicians and other clinical staff to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. The LVN will be the primary point of contact for the provider and patients in handling communication and relaying instructions to patients requested by providers.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Patient Care

Provide telephone triage and appropriately document all communications with patients, providers, and external contacts.
Accurately gather and record patient medical histories and vital signs.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring safety and comfort.
Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during exams and minor procedures.
Administer immunizations, injections, and perform venipuncture, in accordance with state licensure.
Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens.
Maintain clean, stocked, and organized examination rooms and treatment areas.
Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies and notify appropriate staff of restocking needs.
Use appropriate infection control procedures, including adherence to universal precautions and OSHA standards.

Clinical Accuracy

Calculate medication dosages accurately and ensure proper documentation of medication administration.
Communicate instructions and medical information clearly to patients and caregivers as directed by the healthcare provider.
Ensure patient documentation is accurate, thorough, and timely in electronic medical records (EMR).
Support the revenue cycle by verifying referrals and prior authorizations and coordinating with billing staff.

Administrative Duties

Schedule appointments, diagnostic tests, follow-up visits, and procedures as needed.
Manage patient communication, including relaying test results and responding to inquiries.
Triage phone messages and follow up with physicians, staff, and pharmacies accordingly.
Maintain and update patient records in compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.

Customer Service

Provide exceptional, child-friendly service to pediatric patients and their families.
Communicate in a courteous, respectful, and compassionate manner at all times.
Foster a welcoming and safe clinical environment that reflects the clinic’s commitment to pediatric care excellence.

Other Duties

Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Clinic Manager or healthcare providers.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

Current and valid LVN license in the State of Texas

· Minimum of one year professional nursing experience, clinic experience preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (CPR)

Preferred Experience

Minimum of one (1) year experience in a pediatric medical office or similar clinical setting preferred

Skills & Abilities

Strong clinical knowledge and practical nursing skills specific to pediatrics
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Compassionate and empathetic approach to child and family care
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Knowledge of common safety hazards and compliance standards

Physical & Working Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
Manual dexterity required for use of clinical instruments and equipment
Work performed in a clinical office environment with regular patient interaction
May require occasional lifting or repositioning of pediatric patients

Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour
