Position Details

Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Location: Rochester, NY
Base Salary: $50,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience
Additional Compensation: Commission
Required Experience: Kitchen Design — 5+ years | Sales — 3+ years

VHI Cabinet Specialties has been building custom cabinetry in Rochester for nearly 40 years. About half of our business comes from contractors and design professionals, with the remainder coming directly from homeowners.

We’re looking for an experienced Kitchen Designer & Sales Professional who can do more than create beautiful kitchens. We need someone who can listen, solve problems, design the right solution, present it with confidence, and close the sale.

This is a career-level opportunity for a proven professional—not a stepping-stone position.

At VHI, you’ll work directly with our engineering and production teams and have access to state-of-the-art CNC manufacturing technology. Our CNC equipment takes your approved designs directly into production, allowing us to produce highly customized cabinetry accurately and efficiently.

That means you can offer customers something many showroom-based competitors cannot:

True customization, excellent construction, competitive lead times, and direct access to the people building the project.

You’ll also have access to multiple cabinet lines and price points, giving you the flexibility to find the right solution for each customer and budget.

What You’ll Do

You will own your projects from the initial conversation through design, proposal, sale, and production handoff.

Your responsibilities will include:

Meet with homeowners, contractors, builders, remodelers, and design professionals
Discover client needs, priorities, budget, and design preferences
Design kitchens, bathrooms, built-ins, and other custom cabinetry projects
Develop layouts, presentations, and renderings using ProKitchen
Create accurate cabinetry specifications, selections, and proposals
Present designs and pricing clearly and confidently
Follow up consistently with prospects and active clients
Ask for the sale and close business
Develop long-term relationships with contractors, builders, and designers
Identify upgrades and additions that genuinely improve the project
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing throughout the project
Maintain accurate project documentation, approvals, and client communications
Manage multiple projects and customers at different stages simultaneously

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who has already demonstrated success in both kitchen design and sales.

Required

5+ years of professional kitchen design experience
3+ years of proven sales experience
Strong knowledge of cabinetry, kitchen layout, and space planning
Experience presenting designs and pricing directly to customers
Demonstrated ability and confidence to close sales
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong organizational skills and follow-through
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple customers and projects simultaneously
Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and delivery teams
Ability to reliably commute to Rochester, NY or relocate

Even Better If You Have

ProKitchen or comparable professional design software experience
Experience with custom cabinetry
Contractor, builder, or remodeling industry experience
Knowledge of cabinet construction, countertops, hardware, and finishes
An established network within the Rochester-area building, remodeling, or design community

And when you’ve developed the right solution, you’re comfortable asking the customer to move forward.

You also understand that successful custom cabinetry projects depend on accuracy, honest communication, attention to detail, and collaboration with the people who actually build what you sell.
