Full Job Description

Milou and Olin Photography is a boutique, female-centered photography studio specializing in empowering portrait experiences for women, their families, and pets. We are seeking a warm, detail-oriented Hair & Makeup Artist + Studio Assistant to join our team. This hybrid role combines creating stunning beauty looks with essential studio support, including front-desk reception, maintaining a spotless and welcoming space, and capturing fun behind-the-scenes content for social media.

What You’ll Do:
As a Hair & Makeup Artist, you’ll help our clients look and feel incredible before their photo sessions with soft glam makeup and basic hairstyling.
As a Studio Assistant, you’ll serve as the friendly face at our lobby reception desk (greeting clients, managing check-ins, and handling light admin), keep the lobby and makeup area clean and organized when not in artistry mode, and capture casual behind-the-scenes photos/videos of clients and photographers for our social media.

Studio assistant hourly pay will be different than hair and makeup artist pay, and you will switch between the two roles depending on the studio's needs and schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform light glamour makeup within 30 minutes
Style simple, polished hair (like curls or soft waves) within 30 minutes
Greet clients warmly at the lobby reception desk, chat with them to help them feel at ease, and assist with check-in/settling in
Maintain cleanliness of the lobby, makeup area, and tools/supplies (tidying, wiping down surfaces, restocking as needed) when not performing hair/makeup services
Capture fun, casual behind-the-scenes (BTS) content—photos and short videos—of clients during prep, photographers at work, and overall studio vibe for Instagram Stories, Reels, and posts
Create a calming, professional, and uplifting client experience from arrival to session start
Assist with light receptionist/admin tasks (answering inquiries, following up on messages, basic appointment scheduling, and warm follow-up calls using provided scripts and training—required minimum daily outreach)
Follow up with conversations and inquiries using our software
Collaborate with the team to ensure the studio runs smoothly and feels welcoming at all times

We’re Looking for Someone Who:

Is experienced in makeup artistry and basic hairstyling
Has excellent people skills and a naturally welcoming, friendly vibe (perfect for lobby reception duties)
Is dependable, professional, and detail-oriented—including keeping spaces clean and organized
Loves beauty, creativity, and empowering others
Is social media-savvy and comfortable taking/editing quick, authentic BTS content (especially Instagram Stories/Reels)
Is comfortable with light phone communication, client interaction, and using scripts
Is pet-friendly (we have a studio cat and often photograph dogs!)
Is available Wednesdays to Fridays (additional occasional weekend availability a plus)
