Job Description

Position Title: Technical Sales Representative

Department Name: Sales

Supervisor’s Title: Regional Sales Manager

Primary Purpose and Functions:

Manage the Sales activities at all current and prospective accounts in your area. Initiate, maintain, and grow business relationships with metal casting and forging facilities, metal smelters, metal casting processors such as heat treaters and casting cleaning operations, and other heavy industry manufacturers that need company’s products.

Major Responsibilities:

· Service assigned existing customer accounts to ensure CBI and applicable JCE products and equipment are performing well and meeting customer requirements. Develop an existing account maintenance strategy to ensure long-term profitability. Perform periodic account reviews with customers.

· Maintain a thorough understanding of how CBI and JCE products and equipment work, their features and benefits, the regulatory context of customers’ motivation to use them, and the products and equipment they compete against.

· Find new customers that need CBI and JCE products and equipment using marketing techniques such as media, email, internet searches, phone prospecting, and face-to-face sales calls, participation in trade groups, attendance at conferences, and trade shows.

· Qualify potential customers by determining if CBI and JCE products meet the technical and performance requirements of customers by understanding their motivation to buy, the current problems they seek to remedy, and ensuring customers have resources and credit to qualify as CBI and JCE customers.

· Develop, strengthen, and cultivate long-term relationships with existing and new customers.

· Work with suppliers as needed to promote their products, manage the sales process, and provide after-sales support for consumable products as well as equipment.

· Document sales calls, contacts, opportunities and customer profiles in CBI/JCE’s customer relationship management software (CRM)

· Issue periodic activity reports. Prepare sales and expense budgets. Participate in company sales meetings.

· Self-educate on all foundry processes and new technology as it becomes available.

· Help prepare product and equipment cost estimates and quotations, write proposals, and make sales presentations. Work with inside sales staff to ensure customers get what they expect. Learn and understand the quoting process and the price change process, profitability at your assigned customers, and freight relating to each customer.

· Learn and understand the company culture to promote a good working environment with coworkers, customers, and suppliers.

· Set and meet personal sales goals to assist in honing sales skills and supporting company goals.

· When necessary, assist accounting in collecting overdue receivables, correcting invoicing errors, and setting up new customers. Familiarize yourself with the process of setting up a new customer, establishing credit with a new customer and working through initial orders with Customer Service and Accounting.

· Have knowledge of Carpenter Brothers Inc.’s subsidiary, J Carpenter Environmental, LLC and the products and services JCE offers to facilitate a sales call or obtain the needed information.

· Develop and maintain relationships with companies that are represented by Carpenter Brothers, Inc. Occasionally visit supplier locations and disseminate any information provided by the supplier during your visit to all other inside and outside sales personnel.

· Report significant gain or loss of business that affects warehousing requirements, cash flow and the company. Monitor slow-moving stock for both CBI and JCE, adjusting warehouse stocking levels according to customer activity or non-activity.

· Develop excellent listening skills to receive and understand customer needs, receive and understand guidance from management to support company sales and profitability objectives, and to receive and understand changing industry technologies.

· Assist the Quality Manager in resolving corrective action requests or customer concerns by gathering, recording, and sharing accurate data in a timely fashion.

· Provide timely response and follow-up to any customer requests that may include order status, quote status, corrective action status, or other information.

Knowledge and Skills:

· Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Business-related discipline is preferred.

· Minimum of five years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or metal casting field.

· Demonstrated success in maintaining customer relationships, obtaining new business, or project management in the metal casting industry.

· Working knowledge of regulations, state and federal regulatory agencies, and manufacturing and compliance requirements.

· Self-motivated, self-starter. Ability to work and act independently and without constant supervision in activities that require frequent overnight travel. Strong work ethic a plus.

· MS Word and Excel literate.
