Full Job Description

The City of Stockbridge is seeking a qualified professional to serve as Assistant Director of Public Works. This position assists the Public Works Director in planning, directing, and managing the City’s public works and utilities operations, including water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, streets, parks, facilities, and fleet maintenance.

The role provides leadership and oversight of departmental operations and capital improvement projects from planning through completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations. The Assistant Director will also serve as Owner’s Project Manager for major infrastructure projects such as streetscapes, road resurfacing, stormwater improvements, wastewater upgrades, and intersection enhancements.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing contracts and consultants, assisting with budget development and administration, supporting policy and ordinance development, and coordinating with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders. The position also provides technical expertise and recommendations to City leadership on public works and utility-related matters.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field (engineering, environmental science, or technology) and at least seven (7) years of public works and project management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid State of Georgia Driver’s License is required.
