Full Job Description

Carl Bolander & Sons, a well-established earthwork and demolition contractor based in St. Paul, Minnesota is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting team.

This position plays a critical role in supporting the financial success of our projects through billing, job-cost accounting, accounts receivable management, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working collaboratively across departments, and possess strong analytical and organizational skills.

Schedule:

Full-time
Monday-Friday
Flexible schedule between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM

Essential Responsibilities:

Project Accounting & Billing

Prepare and process owner contract billings and Time & Material invoices.
Work directly with customers to ensure timely payment and collection of outstanding receivables.
Monitor and maintain accounts receivable for assigned projects.
Prepare and distribute project cost reports for management, clients, and stakeholders.
Track project costs and ensure accurate allocation of expenses to individual jobs.
Analyze job costs and assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.

Project Administration

Coordinate subcontractor reporting requirements for assigned projects.
Track subcontract billings, quotes, billing information, and project closeout documentation.
Maintain project job files and ensure all supporting documentation is properly filed and retained.
Assist with project setup, financial tracking, reporting, and project closeout activities.

Financial Operations

Complete Bolander Aggregate Pit invoicing and customer statements.
Support month-end and year-end accounting processes.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
Perform additional accounting and financial duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required -

Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Minimum of 2 years of accounting or financial experience.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred but not required-

Construction industry accounting experience.
Experience with job-cost accounting and project accounting.
Experience using accounting and financial management software.
