Full Job Description

The Banquet and Event Manager is responsible for planning and executing events (including corp events, weddings, business meetings, celebrations of life and more) from start to finish. They are also responsible for all correspondence/communications with event hosts and leads. The right candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has demonstrated skills in planning and organization, hospitality, sales and creativity.

This is a full time, year round position.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays is required.

Responsibilities

Food, Beverage and Events

Oversees evaluation and development of event/banquet menus and pricing to achieve member satisfaction while meeting budget objectives

Demonstrates awareness of allergens, diet and culinary trends and ability to provide options for members

Initiate suggestions on how to improve the catering and banquet department operations

Develop and implement theme parties, special event parties, holiday parties, etc.

Personality & Communication Skills

Must possess a positive energy and be passionate about hospitality and customer service

Maintain a high level of professional appearance, demeanor and image of self

Strong interpersonal, customer development and relationship management skills

Keen intuition to anticipate members/ guests needs and exceed expectations

Read, write and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with clients, team members, vendors, provide timely responses to requests from other departments

Detail oriented with strong organization and time management skills. Must consistently meet deadlines

Strong decision maker and problem solver. Ability to maintain composure and remain pleasant in high-pressure situations

Leadership

Establishes daily/weekly meetings with key department leaders in order to maintain communication and provide updates

Maintain positive working relationships and collaboration with all team members and guests

Ability to supervise the F&B team, run the banquet floor, ensure adequate coverage and guarantee flow of banquet service

Engages staff on a regular basis and provides training, as needed, to ensure knowledgeable, smooth and professional service

Responsible for all member/ guest feedback in his/her area. Establishes action plans to improve service levels

General

Responsible for the achievement of service, cost and revenue goals in the Events department.

Perform a monthly walk-through of all banquet areas for work orders and to review issues.

Responsible for following proper controls and standard operating procedures regarding billing and advanced payment of social clients.

Responsible for the maintenance of all events files, both permanent and active

Read, write and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with team members, vendors.

Responsible for inventory of alcohol, placing orders, and monitoring/confirming deliveries

Abilities

Broad understanding of banquet & event management

Knowledge of menu planning, food presentation and banquet and event service operations

Ability to generate fresh, imaginative ideas for events

Knowledge of overall club operations as they affect your department

Effective sales skills to up-sell products and services and negotiate pricing

Develop new business and generate organic growth within existing accounts.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, members and the board

Proficient in basic computer skills and Microsoft software programs. Strong proficiency in Excel required

Knowledge and affinity for Event Technology products and services

Knowledge of contract management and legalities

Financial management skills e.g., ability to understand P&L statements, operating budgets, forecasting and scheduling

Familiarization with food and beverage financial systems and controls

Ability to communicate effectively in English

Physically capable of working on your feet for hours at a time and moderate lifting

Ability to sit and perform tasks in an office atmosphere

Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays

Act ethically and honestly in all business practices and builds professional relationships by promoting mutual trust

Job Qualifications

Education/ Experience

Minimum of 2-year degree in Hospitality or related service industry field and/or two years experience in event planning and/or banquet management

Industry accreditations (i.e. CMAA / PGA, CFM), are not required but we encourage their submission along with any continuing education programs you have completed
