Full Job Description

Tribeca Prep seeks a creative, passionate, and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support our highly diverse students across a variety of grades, subject and clinical support areas.

Tribeca Prep is a 12-month independent special education early childhood and elementary school. We also have a newly opened middle school across the street. Our program includes a significant quotient of academic learning in 1:1, 1:2, and small group settings. Our goal is to prepare our students for a less restrictive environment by developing both their academic and their social skills. Through our cohesive team of teachers, specialists and therapists, we offer our promising learners in grades PK-8, a rigorous, learner-centered education with integrated supports that foster independence and self-advocacy. All teachers, specialists, and related services providers will attend regular staff meetings; many of these provide professional development in addition to information about students and/or upcoming responsibilities. Further, all employees develop a professional growth plan with their supervisor; regular reviews of goals and performance are provided for personal growth. Employees are encouraged to seek professional development in their areas of interest or need. Staff training is an integral part of professional development at Tribeca Prep. In addition to regular group meetings during the school day, all staff must attend scheduled Staff Development activities throughout the year, including days when the students may not be in attendance. Tribeca Prep is ideal for those adults who maintain a growth mindset!

The Speech-Language Pathologist, a Related Service Provider (RSP), is responsible for providing direct and indirect service to students and staff consistent with the integration and collaboration model of Tribeca Prep. The school’s model is interdisciplinary, in which the SLP works directly with classroom teachers and other support services to develop and implement language goals in a collaborative, push-in model when appropriate. Some students require 1:1 mandated service as well. Treatment goals include receptive and expressive language skills, pragmatic skills, motor speech production, oral-sensory-motor skills, feeding, play and leisure and socialization skills; these are addressed/generalized throughout the school and the community. Treatment also includes development of communication through static visuals, iPads and AAC devices, and modified total communication approach. The SLP will be responsible for annual testing, bi-annual report writing, and IEP development. Student progress is recorded and monitored via weekly data sheets. The SLP will be responsible for following ABA behavior plans.

Our specialist will work 1:1 with mandated students. Our mandated sessions are mostly 1:1 with some very small group work as well. The typical mandate is 2-3 x per week @ 30 minutes. Children are 4 years old to 10. Our SLP will collaborate with teachers, instructors, and other specialists (OT, PT, Counseling), of course, and join a lively and friendly community of learners and providers. Our spaces are all new, very well equipped; your favorite needed materials will be procured. In this capacity, it is also expected that the SLP will establish collaborative relationships with parents, outside related service providers, and Tribeca Prep colleagues to ensure successful outcomes for our students.

Qualifications:

● A Master’s degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology

Responsibilities Include:

● Teach language learning strategies in individual and small group settings to students throughout the school

● Collaborate with and serve as a resource for teachers to support the speech and language needs of the students

● Conduct speech and language screenings and assessments on an as-needed basis

● Provide speech and language recommendations, as well as speech and language intervention when recommended

● Ensure that student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate

● Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures according to school policy and prepare and deliver student assessment data effectively according to school policies

● Create and foster relationships, both orally and in writing, with all constituents of the school on a regular basis and as required by school policy

Requirements: ASHA certified. NYS licensed. PROMPT training is a plus. Knowledge of programming AAC devices. Only qualified SLPs with experience will be considered.
