Full Job Description

Position Summary

Blue Ribbon Meats & Seafood is seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial operations. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, overseeing daily accounting functions, managing cash flow, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with all financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Controller will partner closely with ownership and department leaders to drive operational efficiency, profitability, and long-term growth while preserving the values and service standards that have defined Blue Ribbon for more than 75 years.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Maintain accurate general ledger and accounting records.
Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
Develop and monitor key financial performance metrics.
Provide timely financial reporting and recommendations to ownership and senior management.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Accounting Operations

Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory accounting functions.
Ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost accounting for meat, seafood, and value-added products.
Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital requirements.
Monitor banking relationships and treasury activities.
Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and financial reviews.
Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and insurance providers.
Maintain compliance with all reporting requirements and business licenses.

Leadership & Process Improvement

Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and administrative staff.
Evaluate and improve financial systems, reporting tools, and business processes.
Support operational leaders with profitability analysis, pricing reviews, and cost-control initiatives.
Participate in strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
Assist ownership with special projects, acquisitions, capital investments, and financial analysis.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment.

Preferred

CPA designation.
Experience in food distribution, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, or related industries.
Experience with inventory-intensive businesses and cost accounting.
ERP system implementation or management experience.
Family-owned business experience.
