Full Job Description

The Accounting Manager plays a key role in supporting the Stony Brook University Student Organizations by ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position is responsible for balance sheet reconciliations and overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. This role leads financial reporting, budgeting, and trend analysis processes while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger. In addition, the this role performs general bookkeeping and administrative duties as needed.

Position Details:

Salary: From $80,000 to $90,000 per year

FLSA Status: Exempt Schedule: Full-time

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience
Minimum of 2 years of management/supervision experience
Working knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy
Experience with ERP accounting software
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience managing a month end close process
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a higher education environment
MBA in Business, Finance or Accounting, or CPA
Experience with budgeting and financial statement analysis

Key Responsibilities:

Manage other accounting employees
Lead month-end close process
Prepared and distribute accurate and timely monthly financial reports
Assist in designing, monitoring, and evaluating internal controls
Prepare financial projections, trend analyses, and reports for executive councils
Ensure compliance with SUNY guidelines and organizational bylaws for all purchases
Manage accounting software, including general ledger, vendors, and project codes
Develop custom financial reports
Oversee A/R and A/P functions
Serve as liaison with external auditors for year-end audits and IRS form 990 filings
