About the Opportunity

We are well-established industrial service and repair organization serving customers throughout the Western United States. The company provides repair, maintenance, field service, and technical support for critical industrial equipment across a diverse range of heavy industrial sectors.

With a strong reputation for technical expertise, quality workmanship, and customer service, the organization is focused on continued growth and operational excellence. They are seeking an experienced operational leader to help strengthen shop performance, develop employees, implement scalable processes, and support the next phase of the company's growth.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to the shop team while building the systems, processes, and culture required to support continued growth. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing operational procedures, quality standards, performance metrics, and training programs that drive accountability, consistency, and operational excellence.

They will establish clear expectations, coach and develop employees, and create career development pathways that strengthen the technical capabilities of the team.

As the operational leader of the service and repair shop, this position will work closely with planning, purchasing, and customer-facing teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

Success in this role will be measured not only by operational performance, but by the ability to develop people, improve reliability, increase shop productivity, reduce rework, and build a high-performing team capable of supporting the company's long-term growth objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of leading industrial service, repair, maintenance, or manufacturing teams while implementing measurable improvements in quality, efficiency, and employee development. Experience establishing key performance indicators (KPIs), quality management processes, workforce training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives is essential.

While leadership and process improvement capabilities are critical, this role also requires a strong technical understanding of mechanical systems. The successful candidate will possess a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, Mechanical Engineering, or similar technical background, allowing them to effectively support the team, provide technical guidance, evaluate repair approaches, and identify opportunities to improve repair quality and execution.

This is not a hands-on repair role; however, a strong mechanical foundation is necessary to effectively lead the operation and shop team.

Key Responsibilities:

Shop Operations Leadership

Lead the day-to-day operations of the repair and service shop.
Ensure repair, rebuild, and service projects are executed safely, efficiently, and according to customer requirements.
Establish priorities, allocate resources, and monitor workload to ensure commitments are met.
Maintain visibility within the shop and provide hands-on operational leadership to technicians and support personnel.
Drive accountability and performance across the service team.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop technicians, trades personnel, and support staff.
Establish training plans, competency development programs, and career progression pathways.
Conduct regular performance discussions and provide coaching to improve technical and operational performance.
Foster a positive, team-oriented culture focused on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Build leadership capabilities within the shop to support future growth.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

Establish and maintain quality standards for repair and rebuild activities.
Develop and implement processes, procedures, and best practices to improve consistency and workmanship.
Monitor repair quality and identify opportunities to reduce rework, warranty issues, and customer complaints.
Lead root cause investigations and corrective action initiatives.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Technical Oversight

Provide technical leadership and guidance for rotating equipment and mechanical repairs.
Review repair scopes, work instructions, inspection findings, and repair recommendations.
Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex mechanical issues.
Ensure repair methodologies align with engineering standards and industry best practices.

Planning, Scheduling & Work Order Management

Oversee work order planning and execution to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
Review shop priorities and coordinate resources to meet customer delivery commitments.
Collaborate with planning, purchasing, and technical teams to improve workflow and remove obstacles.
Monitor repair progress and proactively address scheduling risks.
Ensure documentation, repair reports, and project records are accurate and complete.

Commercial & Customer Support

Review repair quotations, work scopes, and pricing to ensure accuracy and profitability.
Support RFQ reviews and technical evaluations for repair opportunities.
Participate in customer discussions regarding repair recommendations and project execution when required.
Support business growth initiatives through operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Safety & Compliance

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
Ensure employees receive appropriate safety and technical training.

Qualifications

Mechanical Engineering degree, Millwright certification, Industrial Mechanic certification, or equivalent mechanical background.
Minimum 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience within an industrial repair, maintenance, manufacturing, or service environment.
Strong understanding of pumps, rotating equipment, mechanical systems, and industrial repair practices.
Experience leading technicians, trades personnel, or shop-based teams.
Experience developing and implementing operational processes, procedures, and quality standards.
Demonstrated ability to improve team performance and operational efficiency.
Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in pump repair, rotating equipment, or related industrial equipment.
Experience reviewing quotations, repair scopes, and service pricing.
Experience with reverse engineering, failure analysis, and repair planning.
Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Operational Excellence experience.
ERP, service management, or work order management system experience.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
