Full Job Description

Overview
The Outreach Coordinator leads ABUMC’s commitment to "Social Holiness" by bridging the gap between the congregation and the local community in support of the congregation’s vision, mission, values, strategic plan, goals and development philosophy. This role moves beyond traditional charity to foster sustainable, reciprocal partnerships with other churches and community entities that address systemic issues. The Coordinator is responsible for mobilizing church ministry teams and individual members to impact the church’s strategic outreach goals and objectives. [E.g., food justice, educational equity (specifically through Read School), and non-partisan civic engagement]. The coordinator actively enlists and trains volunteers.

Duties

Drive community outreach and member involvement.
Collaborate with the pastor and Outreach ministry team to craft consistent messaging to foster relationships and recruit volunteers for ministry initiatives.
Develop marketing plans for outreach ministry and collaborate with church administrative secretary/communications coordinator to promote and support church-wide and specific events.
Develop and implement a feedback system to determine which efforts are and aren’t working in order to make changes as needed.
Maintain a portfolio of community partners for the purpose of maintaining and increasing community engagement.
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with outreach ministry engagement duties.
Actively participate in speaking engagements and events to fulfill job duties and functions as needed.
Perform all other duties assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Organizing, Theology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent professional experience).
Exceptional relational intelligence and a passion for people and serving others.
Proven track record in community organizing, program management, or advocacy preferred.
Ability to navigate diverse socio-economic environments and sensibility to the cultural diversity that exists within the church and the community.
Strong public speaking, verbal and written communication skills and marketing skills including use of office computer, web-based, and social media programs
Understanding of the local church context and mission.
Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented and able to prioritize, plan and manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment in all phases of program ministry, strategic partnerships, church engagement, and communications.
Ability to develop and execute strategic plans, programs, and events.
Ability to delegate and share responsibilities with other staff, and church and community volunteers as needed.
Ability to take overall responsibility for the development and administration of a creative and comprehensive community outreach and church engagement plan.
Strong adherence to confidentiality and managing sensitive information and maintaining professional boundaries.

Spritual Qualifications

Must have a commitment to serving Christ through the United Methodist Church.
Must have a sense of commitment to ministry through vocation.
Possess a sincere desire to seek God and God’s kingdom.
Demonstrate personal devotion to Christian spiritual disciplines and spiritual development.
Accept the United Methodist Church’s mission “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world” and become familiar with general Wesleyan theological beliefs.

Physical and Other Requirements

Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for frequent community site visits.
Flexibility for weekend and evening events as required by community needs.
Ability to lift 30 lbs. (e.g., for food distribution or event setup).

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
