Full Job Description

Job Summary: The Body Shop Manager oversees all operations of the auto body/collision repair facility. This role is responsible for leading the team, ensuring high-quality repairs, achieving sales and profitability targets, maintaining excellent customer satisfaction, managing workflow, and complying with industry standards and safety regulations. The manager drives business growth through strong relationships with insurance companies, customers, and internal departments while controlling costs and maintaining shop efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Bring in new accounts and coordinate with director on new account on-boarding in addition to maintaining SLA's on all current accounts.
Oversee daily operations of the body shop, including workflow scheduling, repair assignments, quality control, and timely vehicle delivery.
Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate technicians, estimators, painters, and support staff to build a high-performing team.
Develop accurate repair estimates, review and approve estimates, and negotiate with insurance adjusters and customers.
Manage customer relations: greet customers, provide updates, handle concerns, and ensure "WOW" level service to achieve high CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) scores.
Monitor and achieve department financial goals, including sales volume, gross profit margins, labor efficiency, material costs, and overall profitability.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., hazardous waste, emissions, OSHA/safety standards).
Maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment; coordinate with parts department for timely ordering.
Inspect completed repairs for quality, safety, and adherence to manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
Build and maintain relationships with insurance companies, fleet accounts, and referral sources to increase volume.
Analyze performance metrics (e.g., cycle time, productivity, supplements, comebacks) and implement improvements.
Assist with estimate process (photos, estimate inputting, communicating with insurance adjuster/customer).
Attend walk-in customers and over the phone.
Stay current on new vehicle technologies, repair procedures, paint processes, and industry trends (e.g., ADAS calibration, electric vehicles).

Required Qualifications and Experience

High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in automotive technology, business management, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of hands-on experience in auto body/collision repair, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role (e.g., lead technician, estimator, or assistant manager).
Proven track record in collision repair operations, estimating, and customer service.
Strong technical knowledge of automotive systems, collision repair techniques, paint/refinish processes, and modern vehicle construction (including aluminum, composites, and advanced driver-assistance systems).
I-CAR certifications (e.g., ProLevel, Gold Class, or equivalent industry training).

Preferred Certifications (highly valued and often required by employers)

ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications in relevant areas (e.g., Collision Repair & Refinish, Painting/Refinishing, Non-Structural Analysis & Damage Repair).
Manufacturer-specific training or certifications (e.g., OEM certifications for brands like Ford, GM, Tesla, etc.).

Required Skills and Competencies

Excellent leadership, team-building, and people management skills.
Sales and business scaling skills.
Solid business acumen: budgeting, P&L understanding, cost control, and sales/negotiation skills.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Proficient in CCC collision repair software/estimating systems.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations calmly.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and chemicals (proper PPE provided).

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
