Full Job Description

Join our team of empowering and passionate creatives!

Aya Art Co. is a nonprofit art organization based in Southern California that curates empowering spaces for TK - 8 youth to freely create and fully embody their unique, authentic expression. Emphasizing innovation, creative problem solving, confidence building, mindfulness, environmental stewardship, and cultural diversity, students explore art practices throughout history, natural sciences, art therapy, and expressionism while experimenting with a large variety of artistic processes and sustainably sourced materials.

We are currently scheduling interviewing for positions that will stat late July 2026. Training will begin late July / early August 2026 in preparation for the upcoming school year's classes which begin the week of August 17th 2026. We are very excited to onboard new Aya Art Co. team members, and our goal is to hire new staff as soon as possible!

Lead Expressive Arts Teachers are responsible for:

Setting up the classroom at participating schools throughout San Diego
Leading a classroom of students through our weekly curriculum of projects
Tracking attendance and maintaining student artwork
Facilitating an inclusive, mindful, and compassionate environment for kids to learn

Lead Expressive Arts Teachers are paid $50 / 1 hour class, and an additional $20 / hour for compensated driving time, class set up & clean up, reviewing curriculum, creating a project example, and managing materials.

Expressive Arts Teaching Assistants are responsible for:

Supporting Lead Expressive Arts Instructors in large classes
Setting up the classroom at participating schools throughout San Diego
Tracking attendance and maintaining student artwork
Facilitating an inclusive, mindful, and compassionate environment for kids to learn

Expressive Arts Teaching Assistants are paid $35 / 1 hour class, and an additional $20 / hour for compensated driving time, class set up, and class clean up.

It is really important to us that we can support and meet the needs of our staff, so our intention in asking this question is to determine if we can meet your needs. (We have a 2 class per week minimum requirement, however, it is possible to have to a 5 - 8 class per week schedule)

Where are you located in San Diego?

Please kindly note that we serve locations as far north as Solana Beach and as far south as Chula Vista. The positions we are hiring for involve commuting to various locations and we require all team members to be willing to drive at least 30 minutes to a school location one way.

What is the maximum amount of time that you would be willing to drive to a school location one way? (We have a driving compensation program in place that compensates our artists $20/hr for driving time over 25 minutes one way. (Example : if you are stuck in traffic and it takes you an hour to get home, you would be paid for 35 minutes of that time at $20/hr.)
What age groups do you have experience working with in an educational setting, and how many years of experience do you have working with these age groups?
What is the largest group of kids you have ever been responsible for by yourself?
What transportation method will you use to get to and from classes?
Do you have a laptop, iPad, or desktop computer?
Will you be able to store art materials you need for your classes? We send all art materials to our team, therefore there is a requirement to store materials for your classes.
