Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Staff Development Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering education and training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff within the behavioral health hospital. This role ensures staff competency, supports professional development, and promotes high-quality, safe patient care in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational goals.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Clinical Competency & Compliance
-
Assess staff competencies and maintain accurate competency records
-
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission)
-
Assist with policy and procedure development related to clinical practice and education
-
Participate in audits, surveys, and regulatory readiness activities
Education & Training
-
Develop, implement, and evaluate orientation programs for new nursing staff and behavioral health team members
-
Provide ongoing education on clinical skills, psychiatric care, safety procedures, and hospital policies
-
Deliver competency-based training, including de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care
-
Coordinate annual education requirements, including mandatory in-services and certifications
Program Development & Coordination
-
Assist in developing educational materials, training modules, and competency tools
-
Coordinate external training, certifications, and continuing education opportunities
-
Maintain records of staff training, licensure, and certifications
Leadership & Staff Support
-
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff and behavioral health technicians
-
Support nurse managers with performance improvement plans and skill development
-
Facilitate a culture of continuous learning and professional growth
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Special Qualifications/Education
Minimum Requirements:

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-
Strong knowledge of behavioral health practices and patient safety principles
-
Excellent teaching, presentation, and communication skills
-
Ability to assess learning needs and develop effective training programs
-
Strong organizational and time management skills
-
Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
-
Proficiency in electronic health records and learning management systems
Preferred Requirements:
-
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
-
Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience preferred
-
Previous experience in staff education, training, or preceptorship preferred
-
Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience preferred

Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment

Must take and pass a pre-employment drug screening test.
