Primary Contacts CCC ELRC staff, providers, OCDEL, PA Key, Certification, United Way agencies, EHS/HS, Pre-K Counts, EI, WIC, Career Link and other community agency representatives, elected officials, school district personnel, families and the public

Job summary

The Communications Specialist works under the general supervision of the Community Engagement Manager to support and advance the mission of Community Connections for Children (CCC). This role is responsible for developing and delivering clear, accurate, and compassionate communications that connect families to resources, strengthen relationships with early childhood education providers, and engage community partners in building a strong foundation for children’s lifelong success. The position may require travel throughout ELRC Regions 8, 9, and 10 and a demonstrated commitment to CCC’s mission, values, and community focused approach.

Summary of job responsibilities:

Develop, write, and distribute press releases, announcements, and public communications that reflect CCC’s mission of supporting families, early childhood education programs, and community partnerships.

Serve as a primary contact for media inquiries, ensuring responses are timely, accurate, and aligned with CCC and ELRC messaging. Direct inquiry to the appropriate CCC staff person, typically the Executive Director, member of Leadership Team, or ECHO Director for follow up.

Promote awareness of CCC programs, services, and resources available to families, providers, and community partners through mission focused storytelling and outreach.

Prepare and support CCC leadership, staff, and partners for public facing engagements, including interviews, presentations, community forums, and speaking opportunities.

As requested, draft and edit speeches, talking points, and written remarks that clearly communicate CCC’s commitment to early childhood education, family support, and community collaboration.

Monitor and assess public perception and community needs through social media, feedback mechanisms, websites, and community outreach to ensure communications remain responsive and inclusive.

Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate and support outreach, marketing, and engagement efforts, ensuring consistency and clarity of messaging across all communication platforms.

Uphold and enhance CCC’s public image by ensuring all communications reflect respect for families, cultural responsiveness, and a strengths-based approach to community engagement.

Support community-based events and regional initiatives by providing communications assistance that fosters trust, accessibility, and collaboration across ELRC Regions 8, 9, and 10.

Evaluate and update websites to ensure that communication and information is accurate and up to date.

Monitor and track analytics for website and social media accounts to provide data on engagement within the various platforms.

Represents agency and its programs at community events

Assist with fundraising development and event planning as needed

Attends and participates in agency staff meetings

Attend seminars, trainings, and conferences assigned

Reviews and provides feedback on the proposed ELRC annual work plan (PRI) and CCC’s Strategic Plan as requested

Actively works to maintain awareness of current national, state and local trends and changes in early education and school-age care needs

Regularly reports activities, successes and challenges to Community Engagement Manager

Promotes and supports the mission, values and goals of Community Connections for Children, Inc.

Maintains high performance standards

Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with diverse families, early childhood education providers, community partners, colleagues, and media representatives, while crafting clear, accurate, and mission aligned press releases, speeches, public statements, social media content, and outreach materials in collaborations with CCC leadership and staff.

Demonstrated ability to represent CCC with a compassionate, professional, and culturally responsive demeanor that reflects the organization’s mission and values.

Strong public speaking skills, with the ability to speak on behalf of the organization while maintaining consistent messaging related to family engagement, early childhood education, and community collaboration.

Proven problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in addressing sensitive issues related to public communications, confidentiality, and organizational reputation in collaboration with the Leadership Team and other CCC staff.

Ability to effectively prioritize competing demands and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to independently plan, organize, and complete assigned work accurately, professionally, and within specified time frames.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, community-based environment.

Understanding of confidentiality requirements and the ability to maintain a high level of discretion and professionalism in all working relationships.

Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and ethical communication practices in alignment with CCC and ELRC standards.

Exhibits sound decision-making skills, particularly in public facing communications and community

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel, One Drive, as well as website content management systems, emerging AI based tools, and major social media platforms, with the ability to leverage technology to support effective communication, digital engagement, reporting, and organizational needs.

Minimum qualifications and experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field.

Three years relevant experience in communications, public relations, or marketing required

One year of relevant experience in community outreach/non-profit experience, preferred

Pay: $57,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
