Full Job Description

ExcalTech is a rapidly expanding, award-winning managed IT services provider. Our mission and core values drive our culture, growth, and focus on cybersecurity.

We have a successful 31-year track record providing best-in-class service to our mid-market clients throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida. Due to rapid growth, we are seeking a System Administrator to join our team.

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of servers, desktops, and networking and be comfortable working across a variety of client environments. System Administration responsibilities include installing, configuring, and troubleshooting technology infrastructure devices, including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, storage devices, PCs, and printers.

Work Location & Travel: This role is based a hybrid position based at our corporate headquarters in Rolling Meadows, IL and requires approximately 20% travel to client sites as needed. A company car is provided for client travel.

On-Call Rotation: This position participates in an on-call rotation to support client needs outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends as scheduled.

Differentiators:

Own escalations through resolution, communicating clearly with internal teams and clients.
Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes, including documentation and knowledge transfer.

Responsibilities:

Monitor, triage, and resolve incoming service requests and escalations.
Provide advanced support for infrastructure, systems, and applications.
Install, configure, and maintain servers, endpoints, and infrastructure equipment.
Perform patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting (firmware/OS/application as applicable).
Support LAN/WAN connectivity and network/security devices (routing, switching, firewalls).
Administer user accounts, access, and permissions (AD/Entra ID) and maintain security controls.
Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and procedures.
Lead assigned projects and recommend upgrades/improvements.

Required Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training/certifications.
3+ years of system administration experience in a professional environment.
Strong Windows administration skills (patching, monitoring/alerting, remote tools, backup & recovery).
Experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) administration.
Virtualization experience (VMware, Hyper-V, Verge.io, etc.) and storage concepts (SAN/NAS).
Working knowledge of Layer 3 TCP/IP networking and common hardware (Cisco, Meraki, WatchGuard, Fortinet).
Understanding security best practices, permissions (share/NTFS), and system hardening.
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 configuration/administration.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Clear communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
