SUMMARY
The Regional Executive Director serves as the senior CIS-AH leader and primary public
representative within an assigned region, providing strategic leadership, executive oversight, and community engagement to advance the organization's mission and regional impact.
The Regional Executive Director translates organizational strategy into regional action; provides executive oversight and leadership to Regional Directors; strengthens relationships with schools, community leaders, partners, funders, and elected officials; supports regional advancement and growth; and ensures high-quality implementation of the Communities In Schools model.
Working closely with the Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, President & CEO, and organizational leadership, the Regional Executive Director helps ensure CIS-AH remains deeply connected to the communities it serves while operating as one aligned, high-performing organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE REGIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, the Regional Executive Director provides executive leadership, strategic oversight, and community representation for an assigned CIS-AH region.
Executive & Regional Leadership
● Serve as the senior CIS-AH leader within the assigned region, providing strategic leadership and executive oversight.
● Translate CIS-AH's organizational strategy and priorities into coordinated regional action.
● Provide strategic direction, coaching, and executive oversight to Regional Directors and other regional leadership while empowering them to lead day-to-day operations.
● Build a strong regional presence that reflects the unique needs, opportunities, and communities within the region while maintaining alignment with CIS-AH's mission and organizational strategy.
● Identify opportunities for regional growth, innovation, collaboration, and increased community impact.
Programmatic Leadership & Continuous Improvement
● Maintain executive oversight of regional programming while empowering Regional Directors to lead day-to-day program operations and implementation.
● Ensure high-quality and consistent implementation of the Communities In Schools Integrated Student Supports Model across the region.
● Review regional performance, outcome data, quality measures, and organizational priorities to identify opportunities for improvement.
● Partner with Data & Analytics and Impact & Innovation leadership to understand regional performance
and translate organizational insights into regional action.
● Support regional leaders in implementing improvement strategies, organizational initiatives, and emerging best practices.
● Ensure regional programming meets organizational, contractual, grant, accreditation, and CIS National expectations.
Community Leadership, Partnerships & Regional Engagement
● Serve as the primary public representative and ambassador for CIS-AH throughout the assigned region.
● Build and maintain trusted relationships with superintendents, school boards, community leaders, elected officials, businesses, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, healthcare organizations, funders, and other regional stakeholders.
● Represent or coordinate CIS-AH's presence at community meetings, civic organizations, regional coalitions, conferences, and public events.
● Develop strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives that expand opportunities and resources for students, families, schools, and communities.
● Strengthen regional awareness, engagement, and understanding of CIS-AH's mission, impact, and role within the community.
● Position CIS-AH as a trusted regional leader and convener around student success and community-school collaboration.
Regional Advancement & Sustainability
● Partner with Advancement leadership to identify, cultivate, and strengthen relationships with donors, businesses, foundations, and other potential investors within the region.
● Support donor cultivation, stewardship, fundraising initiatives, grant opportunities, and regional development efforts.
● Strengthen relationships with school districts and community partners that contribute to long-term organizational sustainability.
● Identify emerging funding, partnership, and investment opportunities that support regional priorities and organizational growth.
● Represent CIS-AH with current and prospective funders and help communicate the organization's impact, priorities, and investment opportunities.
Strategic Partnerships
● Develop and sustain high-impact partnerships with businesses, foundations, government agencies, and community organizations.
● Identify opportunities for collaborative initiatives that strengthen student supports.
● Build long-term relationships with regional stakeholders that advance organizational priorities.
● Facilitate community engagement strategies that position CIS-AH as a trusted regional leader.
Leadership Development & Team Culture
● Coach, mentor, and develop Regional Directors and other regional leaders.
● Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, empowerment, continuous improvement, and shared ownership.
● Strengthen leadership capacity and support succession planning across the region.
● Promote CIS-AH's organizational values while supporting team engagement, communication, and retention.
● Empower regional leaders to make effective decisions within their areas of responsibility while maintaining organizational alignment.
Organizational Strategy & Collaboration
● Serve as a member of CIS-AH's Senior Leadership Team, bringing regional perspectives, opportunities, and challenges into organizational decision-making.
● Partner with the President & CEO, Chief Strategy Officer, and organizational leadership to advance strategic priorities.
● Lead regional implementation of organizational initiatives, strategies, and change efforts.
● Identify regional trends, emerging needs, and opportunities and communicate those insights to organizational leadership.
● Collaborate across departments to ensure regional needs are effectively supported by organizational resources and expertise.
Financial Stewardship & Regional Resources
● Partner with Finance and executive leadership to monitor regional budgets, financial performance, and resource needs.
● Promote responsible stewardship of organizational, grant, school district, and community investments.
● Support strategic resource allocation based on regional priorities and organizational goals.
● Contribute to financial sustainability planning related to regional programming, growth, and expansion.
Quality, Accountability & Risk Management
● Promote high standards of quality, accountability, and organizational effectiveness throughout the region.
● Ensure regional adherence to organizational policies, grant and contract requirements, accreditation standards, and Communities In Schools National expectations.
● Identify and elevate regional risks, challenges, and emerging concerns to appropriate organizational leadership.
● Foster continuous improvement by using data, feedback, and organizational learning to strengthen regional performance.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES ASSIGNED TO ALL EMPLOYEES
Fund Development
● Assist with fund development. Activities may include, but are not limited to:
o Participate in donor cultivation and solicitation activities in support of donor development, including by phone, email, or mail.
o Support fundraising events by attending, assisting as needed, and representing the organization positively.
Program Support
● Represent the organization positively in public at all times by acting as a professional representative and ambassador.
● Support the organization's mission and goals across all programs and departments.
Administration
● Maintain accountability to administrative systems and procedures, including submitting expense reimbursements, invoices, reports, etc. by the deadlines assigned.
● Submit content as requested for use in a variety of media outlets and grant applications.
● Participate actively in staff meetings and Board meetings when requested.
Professional Development
● Attend CIS-AH meetings and trainings as appropriate.
● Find other low-cost opportunities for professional development and training.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Five to seven years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit management, education, human services, or community development.
● Demonstrated experience leading large teams through multiple levels of leadership.
● Experience building strategic partnerships and community coalitions.
● Successful fundraising, donor engagement, or grant development experience preferred.
● Strong executive presence with exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
● Experience managing organizational change and strategic initiatives.
● Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and organizational resources.
● Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned region.
● Google Workspace experience and high proficiency.
● Respect for cultural and human diversity.
● Work as part of a team and show professionalism.
● Willingness to learn new skills and systems and collaborate in other areas as needed.
● Excellent communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Education, Public Administration, Business, Nonprofit Leadership, Social Work, or a related field. Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
SALARY and BENEFITS
Starting at $80,000 annually - commensurate with experience and education.
