Full Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), where you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or health challenges to live fulfilling, independent lives. This energetic and compassionate position involves providing personalized care, assisting with daily activities, and fostering a supportive environment that promotes dignity and respect. As a DSP, you will be the positive presence that makes a difference every day, ensuring safety, promoting well-being, and encouraging personal growth for those you serve.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing for changes in condition, and reporting concerns promptly to healthcare professionals.
Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines to ensure safety and compliance.
Prepare nutritious meals and snacks aligned with individual dietary plans while maintaining cleanliness in kitchen areas.
Maintain accurate care plans tailored to each resident’s needs and update documentation regularly.
Provide emotional support and companionship to foster a positive environment that encourages independence and social interaction.
Ensure safety protocols are followed diligently, including first aid procedures and CPR when required, especially during emergencies or incidents.

Requirements

Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care settings is highly preferred.
Knowledge of patient observation techniques, dementia care (including Alzheimer’s and memory care), autism support, hospice care, and working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges.
Certification in CPR and first aid is essential; additional certifications such as HIPAA compliance are advantageous.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting residents with mobility or transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
Strong communication skills paired with patience and empathy to connect effectively with residents of diverse backgrounds.
Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, or overnight hours as needed.
