Full Job Description

Position Summary

IIT is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our growing aerospace and defense manufacturing team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in producing high-quality precision parts, and is committed to safety and continuous improvement. This position involves operating CNC and manual machine tools while maintaining the tight tolerances and quality standards required by aerospace and defense customers.

Responsibilities

● Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual machining equipment.

● Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

● Produce precision machined components to exact specifications and tolerances.

● Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.

● Make offsets and minor program adjustments as needed.

● Maintain accurate production and inspection records.

● Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and organized.

● Follow all safety, quality, and company procedures.

● Work closely with supervisors and teammates to meet production schedules.

● Contribute ideas for improving efficiency, quality, and workflow.

Qualifications

● 5+ years of machining experience preferred.

● Experience with CNC mills and/or lathes.

● Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.

● Proficient with precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.

● Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds, speeds, and tooling.

● Experience machining aerospace materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, or Inconel is preferred.

● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

● Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
