Job Description: Working Supervisor

Position Title: Working Supervisor
Reports To: Operations Lead/Engineering
Department: Manufacturing / Quality
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (or Exempt, depending on pay structure)

Position Summary

The Working Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day production activities on the shop floor while also performing hands-on work and conducting spot-inspection tasks. This position provides leadership, guidance, and training to employees, ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, and serves as a direct contributor in meeting production goals. The dual role requires balancing supervisory responsibilities with active participation in production.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership

Lead and coordinate daily activities of assigned production team(s).
Report production status and problems to management every time block.
Update tag board every time block.
Coordinate with management on component requirements and forecast.
Assign work to employees and adjust workloads as priorities shift and CNC time allocation/ planning.
Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, and escalate issues to management as needed.
Ensure compliance with company safety rules, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Support inspection training for operator spot checking and cross-training of operators on inspection and deburr.

Production & Hands-On Work

Actively participate in production operations (welding, machining, assembly, etc.) to meet daily output goals.
Troubleshoot equipment or process issues to minimize downtime.
Support workflow improvements and recommend process changes to increase efficiency.

Inspection & Quality

Perform in-process and final inspections on parts to ensure they meet specifications (using micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMM, etc.).
Document inspection results and maintain accurate records.
Communicate quality issues to operators and management; follow up to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Update part drawings for spot checking procedures.
Update SOPs quarterly.
Support internal audits and quality system compliance (ISO/AS standards if applicable).

Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing or machining (supervisory experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of inspection tools, measuring techniques, and quality standards.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, ERP or shop tracking systems).
