About the role
Sound Bight Media () is looking for a highly motivated and independent Business and Development Coordinator.
The primary goal of this position is to help us grow our business across YouTube, Substack, affiliations, licensing, and merchandise to ensure we have a diverse set of income streams. This means identifying potential new revenue streams and growing current ones.
The secondary goal of this position is to carry out basic administrative duties such as invoicing, contract compliance, and anything else the business requires in order to meet its required obligations from the state. This can include filing forms or just keeping track of what’s needed throughout the year.
The right person for the position will have experience helping to grow a small business, particularly around the entertainment, media or marketing industries. Please ensure you highlight experience with social media (particularly YouTube, podcasts, or news/journalistic/blog platforms) but also things like invoicing, paying invoices, and other administrative tasks.
Finally, this position will support the company as a whole as needed. We’re a small company that’s very much a start up and everyone wears all hats. This means you could find yourself uploading videos, supporting the production of videos, scheduling social media, or materials for an article, and so on. Additional skills in the Adobe software suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere, is a big bonus.
This position is based in Portland, Oregon and the ideal person hired for this position will be located within the Portland metropolitan area. At present, this is a work from home position, however, the company retains the right to establish an office in Portland, Oregon and make in-office work schedules as needed.

About Sound Bight Media
Sound Bight Media is the company behind the hit YouTube channels: Geography By Geoff and GeoLex (and soon two more channels!). It also owns and operates the Substack community page: The Bight (thebight.co) as well as the now retired podcast: Geography Is Everything.
Our goal is to create fun and educational content around geography and expand people’s understanding of the world and how it works through geography. We’re aiming to become the premiere place for geography content on the internet which means we’re continually looking for ways to expand, grow and create new and fun content around the framework of geography, be that through history, economics, sports, or really anything else.
Sound Bight Media was founded in Portland, Oregon by Geoff Gibson, the creator of Geography By Geoff and GeoLex.
AI policy
Sound Bight Media is an “AI-light” business. Which means we use AI strategically, not creatively. There are no mandates around using AI, but tools are available should the need arise. That said, under no circumstance is AI to be used for the actual production of videos, social media, or articles. This includes the creation of AI videos, images, and text.
In general, we follow the 90/10 rule around AI. No more than 10% of your work should be done by AI.
This job description was written by a human (Geoff!) and we expect your cover letter and resume to be written and created by a human. To put it bluntly: do not use AI to write your cover letter and resume.
AI will not be used to read, digest, or determine eligibility for the position.
Equal Opportunity Employer

In fact, we welcome all of those traits as they reflect the world in which we all live.
