Full Job Description

Take-Off Estimator

NOT A REMOTE POSITION

Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate quantity take-offs for civil and infrastructure construction projects. This position analyzes project plans, specifications, schedules, and other contract documents to develop detailed take-off estimates, identify risks, solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing, and support the bidding and proposal process. The Estimator works closely with project management, operations, and executive leadership to ensure bids are complete, competitive, and aligned with company objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, drainage, paving, structures, and other civil construction scopes.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
Analyze project risks, constructability concerns, and schedule impacts.
Assist with value engineering and alternative pricing options.
Support project turnover and provide estimating information to project teams after contract award.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3–5 years of estimating experience in civil, heavy civil, infrastructure, or utility construction.
Experience reviewing plans, specifications, and contract documents for public and private projects.
Strong understanding of construction methods, cost control, and estimating principles.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Experience with DOT, municipal, utility, and site development projects.
Experience using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, AGTEK, P6 Scheduling or similar estimating software is a plus
Knowledge of public bidding procedures and contract requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
Effective communication and coordination skills.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and telephones.
Ability to occasionally lift and carry files or office materials up to 25 pounds.
Ability to drive and attend pre-bid meetings or site walk-down visits as needed.

Work Environment: Office and will work standard business hours with occasional overtime required to meet bid deadlines.
