Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Labor and Delivery to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing expert nursing care during the labor, delivery, and postpartum phases in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of obstetric procedures, neonatal resuscitation, and maternal health, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and child. This position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive setting that values clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and professional growth.

Key responsibilities include delivering high-quality nursing assessments, assisting with labor management, monitoring fetal and maternal vital signs, administering medications and interventions as prescribed, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes. The role requires adaptability to shift schedules, particularly night shifts, and adherence to hospital protocols aligned with healthcare standards such as HIPAA and infection control practices.

Responsibilities

Conduct thorough patient assessments during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, including vital signs, fetal monitoring, and physical examinations.
Assist obstetricians and healthcare providers with procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and sterile technique management.
Administer medications including analgesics, antibiotics, and IV infusions following prescribed protocols.
Monitor fetal heart rates using telemetry systems and respond promptly to any signs of distress or complications.
Support neonatal resuscitation procedures in accordance with neonatal resuscitation guidelines.
Maintain accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic.
Ensure infection control standards are rigorously followed to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
Provide education and emotional support to patients throughout labor and delivery processes.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including anesthesiology, pediatrics, and lactation consultants for comprehensive care.
Respond effectively to emergency situations involving trauma or acute pain management.

Experience

Candidates should possess a valid RN license with active state registration. Prior experience in labor and delivery units is essential; familiarity with Level I or Level II trauma centers is preferred. Additional qualifications include:

Demonstrated proficiency in obstetric procedures such as suturing, catheterization, IV insertion, and sterile technique.
Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems) like Cerner or Epic.
Knowledge of fetal monitoring technology including telemetry systems.
Background in neonatal resuscitation procedures aligned with Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) standards.
Exposure to high-acuity environments such as ICU or emergency medicine within hospital settings.
Familiarity with obstetric medication administration protocols and pain management techniques.
Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates will also have experience working with diverse patient populations including individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring specialized maternal care. A strong understanding of infection control practices, HIPAA compliance, and medical terminology is essential for success in this role.
