Full Job Description

DACK Consulting Solutions is a growing construction consulting firm supporting technically complex commercial projects throughout New York City. As we expand our project portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support preconstruction, bidding, and cost-planning efforts across multiple trades.

Position Overview

The Construction Estimator will report directly to leadership and play an important role in preconstruction and bid strategy. The successful candidate will prepare estimates from conceptual design through GMP and hard-bid phases while working closely with architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams.

This position requires commercial construction estimating experience. Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating and Bid Development

Prepare detailed construction cost estimates across multiple trades.
Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analyses using conceptual drawings, design-development documents, and construction documents.
Develop budgets, GMP estimates, lump-sum bids, and change-order pricing.
Analyze drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents to ensure complete scope coverage.
Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, cost risks, and potential exclusions.
Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
Prepare bid comparisons and detailed estimate breakdowns.
Research current material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
Assist with pricing strategies for long-lead materials and equipment.
Maintain organized estimate documentation and supporting records.

Preconstruction and Strategy

Support go/no-go decisions through preliminary cost and risk analyses.
Develop value-engineering and cost-reduction recommendations.
Present estimate summaries, cost models, assumptions, and risks to leadership.
Maintain and improve historical cost databases.
Monitor market conditions and pricing trends.
Assist with project turnover to operations following award.

Collaboration

Work closely with project management, operations, engineering, and business-development teams.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope-review meetings, and site visits.
Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to clarify scope and pricing.
Support change-order pricing and other project cost analyses.
Contribute to improvements in estimating procedures, templates, and internal controls.
Manage multiple bids and assignments while meeting established deadlines.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
Three or more years of construction estimating experience, preferably within commercial construction.
Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, budgets, GMP estimates, or hard-bid pricing.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
Understanding of general construction methods, materials, labor, and trade coordination.
Familiarity with New York City construction pricing, logistics, and subcontractor markets preferred.
Proficiency with Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or comparable estimating software.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard business applications.
Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent bids under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on technically complex commercial projects in New York City.
Familiarity with MEP and fire-protection scopes.
Existing subcontractor and supplier relationships within the New York market.
Experience with design-build or design-assist projects.
Experience preparing cost plans from conceptual or incomplete design documents.
Experience reviewing subcontractor proposals and performing bid leveling.

Work Environment

Full-time position.
100% in-office.
Based in White Plains, New York.

Pay: $75,170.66 - $135,000.00 per year
