Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated PRN Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg) to join our healthcare team. This role provides flexible, as-needed nursing support across various inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring high-quality patient care through comprehensive assessments, treatment administration, and coordination of services. The ideal candidate will possess a broad skill set encompassing critical care, medical documentation, and specialized procedures, contributing to our commitment to exceptional patient outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to work in diverse clinical environments, including hospital medicine, emergency departments, and post-acute care facilities.

Duties

Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories.
Administer medications and treatments accurately following physicians’ orders while adhering to aseptic techniques.
Monitor patients’ conditions closely using telemetry and other monitoring systems; respond promptly to changes.
Assist with invasive procedures such as IV insertions, catheterizations, suturing, and wound care.
Document all patient interactions comprehensively within electronic health records (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medication management, and discharge instructions.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols to maintain patient confidentiality and safety.
Participate in triage activities for urgent cases; prioritize care based on acuity levels.
Support specialty areas such as geriatrics, behavioral health, trauma medicine, or pediatrics as needed.

Requirements

1+ year of Medical Surgical experience.
Valid RN license in the state of practice with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS certification preferred for acute care settings.
Proven experience working in medical-surgical units; previous ICU or emergency room experience is highly desirable.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
Experience with complex procedures including IV infusion therapy, ventilator management, dialysis support, and ostomy care.
Familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/10), laboratory procedures, specimen collection/processing.
Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and team collaboration.
Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care.
Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with disabilities or memory care needs is advantageous.
